SITE-SPECIFIC LAB, INTERNATIONAL THEATRE PROJECT

Since 1997, Divadlo Continuo has been organising a regular summer project – creative meetings of artists of different professions, approaches and nationalities. During the four weeks when the project participants work together in the premises of the former farmstead Švestkový Dvůr (Plum Yard), the headquarters of the Continuo Theatre in Malovice, South Bohemia, a unique theatre performance is always created, and then presented to the public in one of the non-theatre spaces in the near or more distant surroundings of Plum Yard.

As in the past 26 years, also this summer Continuo Theatre is going to prepare a summer site-specific project. This year’s project called Layers will be unique and exceptional in several ways. After more than a quarter of a century of annual and now “traditional” site-specific projects with a resulting full-length production in a non-theatrical setting, which take more than half a year to prepare and involve intensive four-week rehearsals with twenty performers and musicians, the creative team of Continuo Theatre has come to the decision to establish this format of site-specific projects as a biennial.

However, audiences who are used to attending Continuo Theatre’s summer projects will not miss out. The new site-specific LAB format will offer them a connection between theatre and other art forms – visual arts, music or literature. And what exactly can the audience look forward to this year? An evening during which they will be able to wander around the corners of the Plum Yard and its surroundings and watch individual theatre events, art and music installations, short performances or performatively conceived lectures by invited guests.

To participate in the preparation of the project, the company invited ten students and recent graduates of partner European theatre schools and young artists, performers, visual artists and musicians from the Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Greece, Spain, Great Britain, Slovakia and Colombia, who will prepare the project at the Plum Yard from 3 to 17 July.

The Plum Yard will open for visitors every evening at 20:00. The production, which the audience will be able to see for three evenings from 18 to 20 July at 9 pm, will last about 2 hours.
