SITE-SPECIFIC LAB 25 – OPENCALL
Continuo is opening the Call for Artists willing to participate in the international project Site-specific LAB 25 in České Budějovice (South Bohemia, Czech Republic) from 7th to 28th July 2025.
The call is open for students, emerging artists and young professionals – ACTRESSES/ACTORS, PERFORMERS, AND DANCERS with previous artistic experience (art school studies, theatre group membership, personal projects) and sincere interest in participating in the project.

ABOUT CONTINUO
CONTINUO is an international independent theatre group led by Pavel Štourač, its director and artistic leader. Since 1995 the company has been settled in Malovice, a little village in South Bohemia (25 km far from České Budějovice) in a former farmstead, the Plum Yard. Members of Continuo research an authentic, personal connection between visual artistic expression and physical acting, rhythm, voice, and musicality. During its existence, Continuo created almost fifty performances and produced more than twenty-five international site-specific projects, that involved over four hundred participants from all over the world.
SITE-SPECIFIC LAB 25 – BASIC INFORMATION
The basic philosophy of Continuo’s site-specific projects is to facilitate a creative international meeting of theatre-makers and theatre students with different approaches to work and with a common goal. This year the project will have very specific form of site-specific theatre laboratory. In its frame we will research and experiment different possibilities of performative activities in the public space. Whole project, which is part of the European City of Culture České Budějovice 2028, will take place at the park near Malý jez (Small Dam) – map here, in České Budějovice.
THEME AND ARTISTIC PROCESS
The theme of LAB 25 is focused on the “story of the everydayness”, which we will explore through movement, visual art and music workshops and through collaborative devised creative work. The group of participants will live together in the Plum Yard in Malovice and work in the park near Malý jez (Small Dam) in České Budějovice.
Site of the park, as well as the particular meeting of the participants, their stories, stories of people from local community and specific groups (seniors and teenagers) from the surrounding neighbourhood will be an inspiration for creative workshops, and for various theatre performances that will be created and presented during the project.
The workshops will be led by the members of Continuo and guest artists: Corinna Vitale, Swiss dancer and choreographer and Hannes Gigger, teacher, composer and double bass player. Creative process will be led by the members of Continuo under the supervision of its artistic director Pavel Štourač.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
We are interested in collaboration with artists who have interest, energy and perseverance, willing to work and share artistic visions in the group, with enthusiasm for creating together and with desire to discover new creative possibilities, to offer, to learn, to try, to fail and to try again. Due to the high demanding nature of the work in the project, a good physical and mental state of the participant is required. The work will be intensive throughout the whole period and will take place mainly outdoors. The participants must be committed for the whole duration of the project. At least the basic knowledge of English is required as it will be the main communication language of the project and creative team.
FINANCIAL CONDITIONS
The participants should only cover their own travel expenses to Malovice and back. Cooking (three meals per day), accommodation and local transport connected with the project will be provided by the company.
APPLICATION
Participants of the project will be selected according to their application form, CV, motivation letter (all material in English) short video self-introduction (more details in application form), video documentation and/or audio recordings of their previous work. After pre-selection, the applicant may be asked for additional materials and/or online meeting.
